The Wells Gray Visitor Information Centre hosted the North Thompson Arts Council ‘Art Walk’ August 4 - 6. Smoke from nearby Wells Gray Park and Adams Lake wildfires and the hot weather didn’t detour visitors from strolling through canopied booths to view beautiful photography, paintings, hand knitted knomes, jewelry and wooden crafts, and art class demonstrations.

Extreme heat, atmospheric rivers, wildfires … all are devastating events driven by climate change. Acting out of growing concern for these events, Transition Kamloops, Kamloops Food Policy Council and Kamloops Naturalist Club joined forces earlier this year to find ways to take climate action at the local level. I had started an editorial this week about giving flowers to the living, however my heart won’t allow me to finish it right now because I can’t get the images of the baby fawn I saw standing by the side of the road not far from the Argo highways truck yesterday morning driving to work in Barriere. The highways truck was parked on highway 5 just south of Barriere, lights and signs out, blocking the body of a beautiful doe dead on the road – again.

It’s been nine months since taking on the role of TNRD Area “A” (Wells Gray Country) representative, four years since I’ve moved to the North Thompson Valley with my family, and 29 years since I was privileged to become a citizen of our beautiful country, Canada.
