Two musical concerts will be coming to Summerland in June.

On June 14, from noon to around 4:45 p.m., the Big Band Extravaganza will return to the Memorial Park bandshell.

The concert will feature music from the 1940s to the present, with standard big band tunes, blues, 1970s rock with big horns and other styles.

Bands performing include the South Okanagan Big Band from Summerland, the Okanagan Valley Big Band from Vernon, the Lake Country Big Band and the Thursday Night Jazz Band from Penticton.

The concerts are free, but donations will be accepted.

Because of the construction work along Wharton Street, those attending are urged to consider parking in the public parking lot at Brown Street and Victoria Road or on another street in the downtown area.

If the weather does not cooperate, the event will be held at the Summerland Community Centre, with seating for around 100 people.

On Friday, June 20, Yanti and the SoCo Blues Crew will perform at the Summerland Community Centre, beginning at 7 p.m.

Yanti has been singing with local groups including the Justin Glibbery Quintet and the Crawford Crossley group.

Instrumentalists of the Blues Crew include guitarist Robert Johnson, bassist Frank Artés, and drummer Rod Rose.

Johnson and Artés have also been part of numerous music projects from blues to funk and jazz to big band. They have also played in the Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne band.

Rose has played with numerous groups in the region.

Zachary has performed with Don Wade and Sax Among Friends.

The musicians have many musical styles including Latin, jazz and fusion.

Tickets are $20 each, or $15 for members of the Summerland Community Centre Association and are available at Artisans of the Okanagan in Summerland, or by e-transferring the funds to summerlandcommunitycentre@gmail.com, stating the show name and date.
