Big bands to perform in Summerland

Four groups to perform at outdoor concert in Summerland

Four big bands from the Okanagan Valley will perform in Summerland on Saturday, June 22.

The Battle of the Big Bands will be held in Memorial Park, beginning at noon. Each band will perform for close to an hour, with an intermission of 15 to 20 minutes between sets.

Each of the four bands has the standard configuration of five saxophones, four trombones, four trumpets and a rhythm section. Vocalists add finishing touches to many of the numbers.

The concert begins with the South Okanagan Big Band from Summerland at noon, followed by the Okanagan Valley Big Band from Vernon at 1:15 p.m., the Lake Country Big Band from Lake Country at 2:30 p.m. and the Thursday Night Jazz Band from Penticton at 3:45 p.m.

While there is no admission fee for the concert, the event is a fundraising event for the Summerland Community Centre.

If the weather does not cooperate, the concerts will be held indoors at the Summerland Community Centre, 9710 Brown St.
