Lumby's one red light signals B.C. band's latest single

Mighty memories growing up in small towns inspires single of band coming home to play Lumby Days

You know it's a small town when you roll up and there's just one red light.

Although small, the memories made in these quaint cities are mighty.

At least for the members of Pistol Whip The Devil.

Frontman Shane Jolie recalls the streets, backroads and fields of Lumby well – and its one red light that lit his formative years.

Now 39 and living in Vancouver, Jolie grew up in the village from 1995 to 2010 and is a Charles Bloom class of 2003 graduate.

The guitar player is the singer/songwriter of Pistol Whip The Devil, a four-man band he is bringing back to his hometown for Lumby Days.

Jolie will be joined on stage by Geoff Way, Ryan Trimble and Dan Wood Saturday, June 14, around 8 p.m.

The rock centric band, with a side of grunge, has started branching into a new kind of country - redneck rock.

The longtime friends formed the band when they found themselves with unexpected time to create during the pandemic.

Being with Pistol Whip The Devil for the last three years, Jolie is excited with the their latest release, Devil In Me.

But it's their second track that connects back to his roots.

One Red Light reflects the life of days by the lake and nights by the fire.

"It's quintessential how we grew up in Lumby," said Jolie. "It's kind of like a small town vibe, it's kind of like a different pace of life."

In town for his dad's birthday bash, Jolie tries to get home often to visit and get that small-town taste but this is his first hometown show.

again since "it's a lot different, especially living in Vancouver."

Drummer Wood can attest, having grown up in a small Ontario town, where there was more than one single-red lights.

Running the single life, the band is his No. 1 priority and they were recently blessed as a $10,000 2024 Emerging Artist Creative BC grant recipient.
