LETTER: 'No dogs' rule is right for Crescent Beach

South Surrey dog owners should just follow the rules, these writers say

Dog owners need to follow the rules at Crescent Beach, this writer says.

Editor,

This letter is in response to Katie Uttley's letter (June 5, 2025)

Katie and her husband are clearly breaking the bylaw which states  'No dogs on Crescent Beach, May 15 to Sept. 15.'

Yes, the previous pilot project failed because so many dog walkers chose to ignore those rules, too.

The laws, as they stand now, make common sense. We have dogs now and have walked our family dogs here for 80+ years. As many more people move here (with dogs), it makes sense for us, in hot summer months, to walk in cool parks or dog parks.

Days without rain turn our parks and beaches into a dog's toilet.

One health inspector pointed out to a dog walker that it was unsanitary to have her dog at Crescent Beach in summer.

"I picked it up," she replied.

He asked her to put her beach towel down on the poop-spot.

"No!"

"Well, why should children put their towels down there today?"

White Rock is a different jurisdiction.

Our taxes go to Surrey. Until recently, White Rock had no dogs, 24/7, 12 months a year.

Their current 'no dogs' is longer than Crescent Beach, April 1 to Oct. 1. We should count our blessings and follow set rules.

So, Katie, whether your dog urinates and defecates before 8 a.m. or after, it still leaves residue.
