Many years ago I stood on a porch with my good friend Sawyer Cairns. On a warm summer’s day, we would fire paint balls into the nearby forest, blissfully unaware of what the future may hold. As time slipped through our fingers, the future became the present, and soon, I found myself standing among the beaming community of Clearwater as they cheered on the 2023 Grads.

Kaity Elliot has always been a happy and talkative social butterfly, who enjoys getting to know people, which is what makes her role as patient ambassador in Clearwater such a phenomenal fit.

Highway 5 safety issues continue to be a serious topic of discussion amongst the working partners and residents along this corridor. The working group which includes Simpcw First Nation and the municipalities of Barriere, Clearwater, Valemount and McBride have what Mayor Merlin Blackwell terms as the “full support” of the Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) on these critical concerns.

Constable Michelle Hall has been with the Clearwater RCMP detachment working Highway Patrol along Highway 5 from Barriere to Blue River and covering the stretch on Highway 24 from Little Fort to Lac Des Roches for the past 19 years.

Signs installed on Mission road after wildlife fatalities and near misses

The Burkholder/Newton family over the past three years have constructed an earthship on their property in Darfield. An earthship is a sustainable home built from dirt-packed used tires and stacked pop cans. Its hallmarks are passive solar heating, rainwater catchment and sustainable energy use and consumption. The family is now moving into the next phase of their sustainable living plan.
