Despite withdrawing from a race, a Vernon ultra athlete is still well on her way to an impressive goal.
Shanda Hill is attempting to set a world record by completing five Deca triathlons in a single year.
After starting the Double Ultratriathlon in Emsdetten, Germany, Hill withdrew on Saturday, June 14, after completing the biking portion of the race.
"She finished the 360 km bike ride very close to the cutoff, which meant she would have had to push hard through the 84.4 km run with almost no room to pace," said a Facebook post. "That would have meant a serious risk to her feet, and she had a tough call to make. Shanda chose to hold back and protect her body."
Hill will be competing in the Bretzel Ultra Triathlon on Saturday, June 21, in Colmar, France.
In November, Hill will also be taking part in the 10x Continuous Deca Ultratriathlon in Taiwan.
The race is 10 full iron distance triathlons back-to-back, completed in one continuous push.
"Not only does this race count toward her world record goal for most iron distances completed in a single year, it also has the potential to be one of the biggest Deca events ever held," said her support team. "With top athletes from around the world expected to join, the energy and competition will be massive."
