Vernon's SilverStar Mountain Resort hosts the annual Slay The Dragon Trail Race Saturday, June 21.

Vernon's SilverStar Mountain Resort will be a magical place for dragon-slaying this weekend.

The resort will be full of runners Saturday, June 21, as Bush Babes and Bros Trail Running hosts Slay The Dragon, one of the North Okanagan's most thrilling and scenic trail races.

"This year promises to be bigger, bolder, and even more inspiring," said Bush Babes founder and race director Dawna Jodoin.

Slay The Dragon offers 13-kilometre, 25km, and 50km race options designed to challenge runners of all levels through alpine trails, steep climbs, and jaw-dropping views.

There is also a Slay The Baby Dragon fun event for kids up to 12-years-old, who will enjoy a 2.5km out and back run.

"This race is designed to introduce children to the joys of trail running in a safe and exciting environment," said Jodoin.

The route is set on the scenic Cross Mountain Trail with gentle ascents and descents. An expert marshal will be stationed at the turn-around portion of the course to provide guidance and support. The race is timed, but the emphasis is on participation and enjoyment rather than competition.

Slay the Baby Dragon starts and finishes at the same line as the big kids, and it's open to children of all ability levels.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for kids to challenge themselves, have fun, and meet other young trail runners," said Jodoin. "Parent participation is suggested and strongly encouraged for young children."

The annual Slay The Dragon event brings together a powerful community of runners, volunteers, and supporters.

Slay the Dragon is just as exciting from the sidelines.

Head up to SilverStar to cheer on the runners, soak up the mountain vibes, and be part of the energy. Races start at  7 a.m., 8 a.m., and 9 a.m.
