In the family photo album is a picture of a then-five-year-old DJ Crowe teeing off on the Par 3, 133-yard sixth hole at Shuswap National Golf Club outside of Salmon Arm.
Fast-forward 11 years to Saturday, May 3, where Armstrong's Crowe shoots a two-under-par 70 – including a par 3 on the sixth hole – to win the Private Sky Aviation Zone 2 Junior Golf Tour stop on the same course.
It was Crowe's second consecutive Saturday tour win, and third victory of his career.
The 16-year-old Pleasant Valley Secondary School student finished three shots ahead of Cohen Bitzer from Penticton, and four better than Luke Traverse of Revelstoke.
Crowe overcame back-to-back bogeys on the par-four 14th and 15th holes with a solid birdie on the par-five 15th. He parred the final two holes.
Nate MacPhee of Vernon's Predator Ridge Resort finished alone in sixth place at six-over 78, while clubmate Kobe Menzies was ninth at eight-over. MacPhee and Menzies finished second and third, respectively, in the juvenile flight, won by Sam Hager of Kelowna's Okanagan Golf Club with a 76.
The tour ventured south Sunday, May 4, to the Kelowna Golf and Country Club where Max Hager of the Okanagan Golf Club led a sweep of the top-five positions by Kelowna area golfers with an even-par 72, good for a three-shot win.
Tyson Wicklund of the Vernon Golf and Country Club tied for sixth with Bitzer at five-over 77.
Crowe finished in a tie for eighth place with Traverse, Dominic Meyer of Predator Ridge and Jake Blankley of the Vernon Golf Club. All four shot six-over 78.
Menzies was 12th, one shot back.
MacPhee had a rough round Sunday, firing an 86 to finish in a tie for 24th spot.
