GoByBike Week
It's time to turn off your vehicle and turn on your legs.
As part of the 2025 Climate Action Community Outreach Strategy, the city will participate in GoByBike Week (GBBW), a province-wide initiative promoting non-motorized transportation such as biking, scooters, skateboards, and rollerblades.
Participants can register at the GBBW Vernon page, and log their kilometres to track greenhouse gas savings.
There will be several celebration events hosted by community partners throughout the week, including a kick-off bike market on Friday, May 30, at Polson Park from 4-8 p.m.
Hotcakes and handlebars, a North Okanagan Cycling Society pancake breakfast and bike demo will be on Sunday, June 1 at Ellison Provincial park from 10 a.m- 2 p.m.
The wrap-up event will take place at Civic Memorial Park from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, with the Vernon pride walk also occurring at 12:45.
For a full schedule of events, visit vernon.ca/gobybike. All events are free.
Vernon city members have created a team of their own for the week (City of Vernon Velocity) and more information can be found at gobybikebc.ca/vernon-north-okanagan/.
Feedback for Official Community Plan
Vernon is seeking feedback on the third phase of the Official Community Plan (OCP) and Transportation Plan (TP).
"These foundational documents will guide how Vernon grows and moves over the next 20 years," said a release. The OCP describes the long-term vision for the city and sets out clear goals and guidelines.
Community members can share feedback on land use and transportation at engagevernon.ca/ocp-tp.
The survey will be open from May 26 until Monday, June 30.
You can also pick up a printed survey at the Community Services Building (3001 32nd Ave) and attend Open Houses on Thursday, June 5 (2- 6 p.m.) and Saturday, June 7 (9 a.m. to noon) at the Civic Memorial Park community classroom (3003 37th Ave).
Residents who participate in the survey can enter a draw to win $150 in Downtown Vernon Association dollars, which can be used at a wide range of local businesses.
