Quesnel RCMP are investigating a Friday afternoon crash that resulted in the death of a 61-year-old man.

At about 1:48 p.m. on Friday, July 4, an officer conducting patrols found an SUV on its roof in a ditch on Blackwater Road, near Mitchell Road, just south of the Quesnel Golf Course.

The 61-year-old man was extracted from the vehicle and while officers and paramedics attempted life-saving measures, they were unable to resuscitate him.

"The Quesnel RCMP are investigating the cause of the collision," said Cpl. Rob Belanger in a press release.

The scene briefly closed the road.

Emergency services were at the scene for nearly an hour.
