A new chapter in Chilliwack youth soccer was celebrated last Wednesday night, at a special media event.
A crowd of young players with Tzeachten Chilliwack United watched with excitement as their future jersey was unveiled. The youth soccer club will soon be sporting green and white, in large horizontal stripes, on game days. Their new jerseys and logo were met with cheers, smiles and a few questions.
One player asked if their last names would be printed on the back, followed by the young crowd chanting to the board: "Last names! Last names! Last names!"
The logo features a bronze, green and white heron playing with a soccer ball, and was created by Jonathan Kinneman.
The unveiling followed a club meeting, where parents and coaches could ask questions of the board about the merger that brought along the need for a new look. Tzeachten Chilliwack United is a newly formed soccer club, joining Chilliwack FC with Tzeachten FC. The board is calling it a "landmark collaboration."
Tzeachten Chilliwack United will officially launch in September, "with a shared mission to deliver a stronger, more inclusive soccer experience for youth across the community," a press release stated.
“This merger is about more than combining clubs—it’s about combining strengths,” said Darryn Botha, President of Chilliwack FC.
“By joining forces, we can offer more opportunities, deeper community connections, and a shared vision that reflects the values both clubs have long upheld,” added Derek Epp, President of Tzeachten FC.
There was a surprise presentation at the unveiling, when Phil Algra gave two wooden engraved plaques to Epp for the clubhouse, with the new club name on them.
