Residents in the Falcon Ridge area of Joe Rich are being asked to take extra precautions with their tap water.
The Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) has issued a water quality advisory for the 62 properties connected to the system. The advisory comes as a result of increased turbidity in the water, caused by the annual spring freshet, when melting snow and rainfall increase streamflow and stir up sediment in the water supply.
Residents, especially young children, seniors, and anyone with a weakened immune system, are advised to boil their water for at least one minute before using it for drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, or washing fruits and vegetables. Bottled or distilled water is also a safe alternative.
Roadside signs have been posted in the area to alert residents, and the advisory will remain in place until further testing confirms the water meets Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines.
