Town of Creston's Stage 1 water restrictions in effect until fall

Restrictions may increase in dry weather conditions

With the summer solstice upon us, the Town of Creston has implemented annual restrictions for water usage.

Stage 1 water conservation measures, effective June 1 through Sept. 30, come into effect every year regardless of the weather.

All water systems operated by the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) have also been under Stage 1 restrictions since the beginning of the month. The RDCK operates the Arrow Creek Water Treatment Plant, within the Erickson water system, as well as the Lister water system in the Creston Valley.

While the majority of Creston's potable water is drawn from Arrow Creek, the town also has its own independent groundwater wells, which can be used as a backup source when needed.

Residents are asked to use water wisely and follow the guidelines to help ensure a reliable water supply throughout the summer months. Restrictions may be enhanced if hot and dry weather persists, demand spikes, or reservoir levels drop significantly.

Stage 1 watering guidelines:

• Watering of new/pre-existing lawns, gardens, trees, and shrubs is only permitted between 7 p.m. and 10 a.m.

• Filling swimming pools can only be done between 8 p.m. and 10 a.m.

• Drip irrigation, watering cans, or handheld hoses with shut-off nozzles may be used at any time.
