The Town of Princeton will discuss signage and timber structure upgrades at its next regular meeting of council.
Gary Schatz, Princeton's director of economic development and tourism, is recommending that council approves the staining and refinishing of all town signs and log work by awarding the contract to the Carving Lot from Penticton for the sum of $51,963.63.
The upgrades will apply to:
- Vermillion Street Gateway
- Bridge Street Gateway
- Eagle Sign Hwy 3
- Bridgeview Park/Tulameen Eagle Perch
- Visitor Centre
- West Hwy 3 Sign
- East Hwy 3 Sign
- Information Sign (Similkameen River)
- Information Sign (273 David Brown Way)
- Highway 5A Sign
Most of the Town's timber structures have been in place for five years and are due for sanding and staining, which is part of a regular maintenance program to extend the lifecycle of the structures. The economic development department solicited quotes from three companies for this highly specialized process, and received two, with the Carving Lot providing the cheaper option.
Schatz stated in the recommendation that they are looking to have work begin in late April or early May, in preparation for the tourist season and aligned with the Town's spring clean-up. Council will discuss the recommendation on April 2.
