UPDATE: Grass fire doused, Highway 33 reopened in Kelowna

A fire on Black Mountain's Walker Hill in Kelowna has been extinguished on Tuesday night, June 10.

UPDATE: 8:57 p.m.

The grass fire near Walker Hill has been extinguished by fire crews. 

Additionally, Highway 33 has reopened and traffic is no longer impacted.

A grass fire in Kelowna's Black Mountain neighbourhood has closed down lanes of Highway 33, Tuesday night. 

According to DriveBC, Highway 33 is down to single-lane alternating traffic between Loseth Drive and Goudie Road. The blaze is reported to be off Highway 33 near Walker Hill, which caused the highway to close in both directions just after 8 p.m., however, the road opened to single-lane alternating at 8:30 p.m.

According to a post in the Black Mountain Community Facebook group, it is a grass fire.

While DriveBC called it a wildfire, the blaze does not appear on the BC Wildfire Service map at this time.
