Kelowna students help snuff abandoned fire during forest clean

The Rutland Senior Secondary Forestry Class helped clean the Postill Shooting Range with the Okanagan Forest Task Force

Students from Kelowna's Rutland Senior Secondary were praised on social media for quick thinking after finding an abandoned campfire.

Okanagan Forest Task Force President Kane Blake made the post, stating the forestry class was assisting with a clean at the Postill Shooting Range on June 11.

According to Blake, the fire "had started to travel along the ground into the roots of cedar trees."

The students alerted task force members to the blaze and the fire was extinguished.

The forestry program at Rutland Senior Secondary allows students to experience a glimpse of the forestry industry and related career opportunities with a heavy focus on practical skills.
