Among many other notable observations and celebrations, June is a time to recognize both Pride and Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month.

Pride Month is about showing support for 2SLGBTQIA+ people – our friends, family, neighbours and co-workers. It’s a time to celebrate who they are and stand up for their rights. Lately, there’s been a rise in negative talk and actions aimed at the LGBTQ+ community, and it’s concerning. Everyone deserves to feel safe and respected, and we all have a role to play in keeping our community welcoming and fair to everyone.

It’s also Men’s Mental Health Month, which reminds us many men struggle in silence with their mental health. There’s still pressure to “tough it out,” but we need to make space for honest conversations and let people know it’s okay to ask for help.

This month, let’s check in with each other, listen with care, and continue to build a community where everyone feels they belong. Take care, everyone.
