A three-vehicle collision sent four people to hospital March 29.

A three-vehicle head-on collision sent four people to hospital last Saturday, March 29.

The incident took place around 1 p.m. on Highway 3A near Irving Road in Thrums.

According to Castlegar RCMP, the initial police investigation determined that a vehicle travelling downhill failed to negotiate a curve, crossed a double solid line, struck the mirror of an oncoming vehicle, and then collided head-on with a second oncoming vehicle.

A 64-year-old female was airlifted to a regional hospital with serious injuries. The other drivers and a passenger were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Highway contractors were nearby at the time of the incident and conducted immediate traffic control. Traffic was rerouted for several hours.

“The Castlegar RCMP wish to thank BC Highway Patrol, BC Ambulance Services, Tarrys Fire Rescue and all who assisted in the rapid response to ensure public safety,” says Castlegar Cpl. Christopher Von Colditz.

Castlegar RCMP continues to investigate the incident to determine contributing factors and if Motor Vehicle Act charges will be laid.
