A collision took place on April 3 on Columbia Avenue in Castlegar.

A collision between a motorcycle and a car sent one person to hospital Thursday, April 3.

The incident took place in the 2300 block of Columbia Avenue around 3:30 p.m.

Castlegar Fire Department (CFD), police and ambulance crews all responded to the incident.

According to Chief Sam Lattanzio, the motorcyclist sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital.

CFD members assisted BC Ambulance Service crews with patient care and conducted scene safety as well as hazmat control.

The incident is under investigation by the RCMP.

While CFD was still on scene, they received another call to a report of smoke coming from the 1900 block of Columbia Avenue behind the Sandman Hotel.

CFD redirected Rescue 1 to that scene while two other fire apparatus remained at the accident scene. In all, 11 CFD members responded to the two simultaneous incidents.

Lattanzio says as the city continues to grow, simultaneous and back-to-back incidents are becoming more and more common.
