Editor,
Several more provinces just announced that they are providing no-cost shingles vaccines for people over 65, and in one province 50 years of age as reported earlier this month.
B.C. should be following suit as soon as possible. Hospitalizations, visits to the emergency room and what can be permanent damage are all repercussions from avoiding this important issue. Please contact your local MLAs and voice your opinion. It seems that the only way to get what we deserve is to speak out loud and clear.
Currently it costs $400 to get the two shots required in B.C. This disease can occur in one out of three people, with seniors hit the hardest, at a time in their lives when many are on fixed income! With diminished immune systems, seniors are more likely to get the disease and suffer more serious and damage. Man up, B.C., and do the right thing. We deserve parity with other provinces.
