To the editor,

One of the big mysteries of this whole COVID-19 thing is how our neighbours south of the border have made such a mess of all things related to covid.

Was it their medical system, where a simple test for the virus could cost hundreds of dollars? One estimate I heard was $900! Just for the test alone. Note here the United States is the only country in the western democracies that doesn’t have some form of universal health care system.

As Gwynne Dyer pointed out, even India has introduced a basic system of universal care.

No, in the “land of the free,” a human body is something to make great profits from. The American Medical Association wouldn’t have it any other way.

Obamacare did mitigate some of the worst aspects of the American’s medical system, but it’s not enough. Incidentally, Donald Trump, during his four years of total misrule, tried his best to destroy Obamacare.

Speaking of Trump, he just happened to be in power when the COVID virus came upon the scene. Trump’s declaration that only a dozen or so Americans had COVID, and they were all getting better, or Trump’s own cures — bleach and home de-worming medicine — did a lot of harm.

Let’s review the figures. Deaths in Canada from COVID are over 30,000. If one used rough calculations to multiply the figure by ten, about the ratio of the two country’s populations, 300,000 should be the United States’ death count.

But, no, it’s over 2.5 times that, at over 850,000. Why that disproportionate figure?

Well, my experience in conservative dialing on the radio might shed some light on things. The other night I tuned into a Red Eye Radio show. Someone was ranting on about how anyone advocating vaccines should be arrested or was about to be arrested — vaccines were no good, etc.

It was all a Stalinist plan on the part of the Joe Biden government to ensnare the good citizens of the USA.

However, even Trump is now trumpeting the virtues of the vaccine injection, much to the chagrin of his followers like Alex Jones. Maybe there is hope after all for the Americans.
