Letter to the editor - Clearwater Chamber vice-president, Cheryl Thomas

The Clearwater and District Chamber of Commerce vice-president, Cheryl Thomas, write about spring and new ideas for business in Clearwater

Spring has arrived and with it, the weather is becoming warmer.  Individually, we are putting away the heaviness of coats and shovels and turning our faces to the glorious sounds and actions of our growth and diversity as a business community.’  It is time for routing out the old dead issues and planting the seeds of inclusion and diversity in our business community.

Your Chamber members are leaders in this aspect of building our community. By being a member of this local, provincial and federal community, we see the value of collaboration and conversation.  Our goal is to promote local businesses and hear the voices of our membership as well as all business people.

In conversation with various Clearwater and District Chamber members, and yes, none members also – there have been a few ‘keys’ identified as ‘missing’.  One of the most glaring is the need for a Taxi service.

As a member of the more senior aspect of this community, I feel that this one small ‘local business re-addition’ to the community would improve those wanting to support local businesses immensely. Yes – there is the ability to ‘have items delivered’ however, there is a feeling of accomplishment when we get to actually go to the store – pick up the items – read the labels and yes – talk to the clerk and feel that a person is actually getting a choice of product. Doing your shopping for yourself is an amazing confidence builder and helps a person to live an interesting and longer life.

Another request – from individuals this time; includes the need for a second grocery store outlet. These two suggestions seem reasonable for a community of this size, and we would like to ‘add our influence’ towards assisting these types of dreams become a reality.  Therefore, this is an invitation to any agencies working towards either this or another project that would support our local store front businesses, to please include your local Chamber in your deliberations.

Spring into action!  Join your local Chamber and build your business community. The way I see it is that we build community through sharing our thoughts and expertise and encouraging conversation, in person.

Sincerely

Cheryl Thomas

Vice-President of the Clearwater and District Chamber of Commerce.
