Editor,
This letter is addressed to Alberta Premier Danielle Smith:
Your mission to separate Alberta from Canada isn’t going to happen. You wanting to put out a referendum to your citizens.
I have lived with two referendums from Quebec wanting to separate from Canada. I was born and raised there. It was voted down twice by the majority of Quebec citizens. The majority of Quebecers want to remain Canadian.
Hence to say, we didn’t want to stay in Quebec. We moved to Vancouver, B.C. over 35 years ago. Best decision we ever made. You don’t have the right or authority to separate Alberta from the rest of Canada.
This land doesn’t belong to you. It belongs to the Indigenous people. If you decide to pursue this path, you will have a serious fight against the Indigenous Peoples and citizens against this undemocratic move.
