To the Editor,
On Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020, the Aboriginal Cultural Centre, along with our community partner the BC Metis Federation, will be at the market at the old Brookfield shopping mall, 9:00 a.m. until noon. This is for Indigenous families in the North Thompson Valley who may need a little extra help through the COVID-19 pandemic.
With thanks to the BCMF, local donations, and support from local businesses, we will have cleaning products, hand sanitizer, masks, gift certificates, information sheets, BCMF membership applications, etc. These are all FREE to our Indigenous families. There will be a simple registration to fill out, but our main goal is to support all of our Indigenous families through these difficult times.
The Aboriginal Cultural Centre started in 2008, becoming a registered non-profit society in 2013. Over the years we have been involved with community events, and have partnered with many local organizations. The North Thompson Aboriginal Cultural Centre, is a “Unique Cultural Centre,” — we focus on sharing traditional knowledge from all First Nations, Metis, Inuit, and local pioneers from the valley and from all across Canada.
We recognized that all people, both Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal, must work together to make good things happen. The BC Metis Federation has supported many community members and events for quite a few years and is a non-profit association that works with Métis communities to ensure the well being of grassroots BCMF members.
