Clearwater’s Dutch Lake doesn’t need another park

Re: Keith McNeil’s June 14th article “Dutch Lake Property Should Be A Park.”

I see “Captain Keith” has boarded a much smaller boat! Going from saving the planet to saving 23 hectares on the northwest corner of Dutch Lake is quite a downsize in your first month of retirement, Keith! It sure would be nice if you could take on a project that I could agree with. I’m getting tired of suffering from “grumpy ol’ man syndrome”! Last time I heard, there are approximately 23 parks in the Clearwater area. I think adding one more park to the total would be as useful as a screen door on a submarine!

Dutch Lake does not need another park. What it really needs is a sewer system encompassing its shoreline, something that should have been installed 40 years ago. The 23 hectare property has the approval for a 53 lot subdivision. The tax revenue from those properties would go a long way towards building that sewer system. Everybody talks about the beauty of Dutch Lake, but it seems nobody wants to take care of it. Besides a multitude of houses, the shoreline has two motels, two RV parks, a resort, a restaurant, and a mobile home park. Only a handful of these places have septic systems that are built to today’s codes; the rest of them are grandfathered in.

There aren’t very many towns in this province that have a beautiful lake in the middle of them. It’s about time the District of Clearwater, the TNRD, and the Ministry of the Environment got off their asses and did something about protecting Dutch Lake. There’s an old saying, “Crap runs downhill”! I rest my case. Welcome to Dutch Lake.
