Midway RCMP officer facing Motor Vehicle Act charges

BC Prosecution Service announces two charges against Cst. Christopher Odgaard over July 1, 2024 incident.

A Midway RCMP officer is facing two Motor Vehicle Act charges over a July 1, 2024 incident in the village.

A Midway RCMP officer is facing two vehicle-related charges over an incident that occurred last summer in Greenwood. 

The BC Prosecution Service (BCPS) announced in a news release on June 10 that two charges under the Motor Vehicle Act have been approved against Cst. Christopher Odgaard, following an incident that occurred in Greenwood on July 1, 2024. 

The incident was investigated by the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) and referred to the BCPS for charge assessment, the release stated.

Cst. Odgaard is facing one count of driving without due care and attention, contrary to section 144(1)(a) of the Motor Vehicle Act, and one count of failing to safely execute a reverse turn (U-turn), contrary to section 168(a) of the Motor Vehicle Act.

The Information was sworn on June 10, under Grand Forks provincial court file number 24008-1. The first appearance on this matter is scheduled for June 30. The charges were approved by an experienced Crown Counsel who has no connection with the accused. 

As these matters are now before the court, the BCPS will not be releasing any additional information or commenting further at this time.
