The Grade 3/4 class at Carlin Elementary Middle School learned the gift of giving with its recent student-planned fundraiser that garnered $303.40 for BC Children's Hospital.
"I'm so excited to share that our fundraiser was a big success," teacher Shelby Shuster said in a media release from School District 83. "The students put on an incredible event, selling baked goods and homemade items — and their hard work truly paid off."
The fundraiser was the result of months of work, with students planning it from start to finish, making items, posters and announcements, and meeting regularly to keep things on track.
"Their leadership, collaboration and enthusiasm is truly inspiring," Shuster added. "I'm incredibly proud of the dedication these students showed — and even more so, their compassion and initiative in supporting a cause they care about.
"It's moments like these that remind me how bright their futures are, and how they will continue to shine their light into all corners of the earth as they carry through life."
Shuster also credited families and friends who supported the fundraiser by helping bake, donating items, making purchases and encouraging the students to help "make today such a special experience for them."
