One of the biggest fundraising events in Kelowna accomplished a record-breaking amount.

The YMCA of Southern Interior BC’s annual Cycle for Strong Kids events brought in $278,926, all going towards helping youth mental health, family support programs, and more.

“We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our amazing community for stepping up to support YMCA Cycle for Strong Kids,” said Tammie Watson, VP of Philanthropy at the YMCA of Southern Interior BC. "These funds will help us ensure low-income children, at-risk youth, and families in need have the tools, resources and support networks they need to be healthy, resilient and strong. Our YMCA programs and services and designed to help our most vulnerable populations not only survive, but thrive.”

A week ahead of the annual Dillon and Payton Budd Memorial Ride, Tom Budd of The Payton and Dillon Budd Memorial Fund was one of the event's sponsors and took part in the event.

“The YMCA is breaking cycles of despair; their efforts are helping to lay healthy foundations for young people in our community to ensure children and youth have the tools and support systems they need to grow up healthy and strong, mentally and physically,” said Budd. “As a dedicated advocate for mental health, I'm honoured to be the presenting sponsor of this event, helping uplift future generations to ensure no child is left behind due to financial barriers.”

This year's event was four hours long and each ride was sold out. Current NHL player Luke Schenn and his daughter took part in the festivities.

There was also an expanded kids’ zone, street hockey, food, prizes, a wellness zone, a photo booth, and more.
