Giddy up! The Cowichan Therapeutic Riding Association is mending fences through music as they celebrate their second fundraiser featuring the music of dance party band Demographix and Chris Andres.
It all takes place inside the covered arena at Duncan's Providence Farm on May 31 starting at 5 p.m.
"This year, we’re going into the event with a lot more confidence," said CTRA executive director Jill O'Neill. "The word is definitely out that Mending Fences is a fun, music-filled evening that brings people together. Our team has a much clearer idea of what’s involved, what works well, and how to create an experience that our guests will truly enjoy. It feels great to build on last year’s success."
O'Neill said the therapy herd of 10 to 12 horses is the group's most valuable asset and their care, housing and feed are the largest portion of the CTRA's budget. The fundraiser is an important part of keeping the association running.
"The true success was in seeing people come together for an evening of music, connection, and shared purpose," said O'Neill of the previous year's event. "It was a chance for the CTRA team to step back from delivering our programs and invite the community to celebrate all that CTRA stands for."
Chris Andres from Qualicum Beach is headlining this year's event. Andres who, has been making music for more than 30 years, just released his 7th studio album, and will be one of the showcase performers at this year's British Columbia County Music Awards. Andres won country artist of the year at the Vancouver Island Music Awards in 2017 as well as many international awards.
"It's a real honour to be asked to perform there again this year," said Andres. "When I'm not making music and recording I've also been working with adults with learning developments for about 15 years. As a matter of fact my client loves therapeutic riding. I feel honoured to do my small part to raise funds for this wonderful program."
"Having Chris return to open the evening is really special for us," said O'Neill. "He did a fantastic job last year and brought the kind of local community spirit that aligns perfectly with CTRA’s mission. His music sets a welcoming tone and helps guests feel at home. We’re also excited to feature Demographix, a band known for playing music that gets people dancing. We hope attendees leave feeling connected, uplifted, and reminded of the important role CTRA plays in the community."
