The Rotary Epic Day of Service is meant to be a celebration of global impact and local commitment. The mission of the day was to unite 1.4 million Rotarians around the world on May 17 for a powerful day of meaningful community service.
The Castlegar Sunrise Rotary Club was proud to take part in this global initiative.
Beginning at 9 a.m., eleven Rotarians and three dedicated volunteers gathered at Castleview Care Centre, where teamwork led to the successful construction of four beautifully crafted elevated cedar planters. These planters will provide enjoyment for both residents and staff for many years to come.
The efforts concluded just in time to enjoy a delicious BBQ lunch prepared by the Castleview staff — a perfect end to a rewarding day.
"We are incredibly proud of our club, recently honoured as “Rotary Club of the Year” (chosen from 71 Rotary Clubs District wide) at the District Conference," said Rotarian Sharon Wigen. "This project stands as a shining example of the Rotary motto: Service Above Self.
"We extend our heartfelt thanks to our families, friends, and the many local businesses whose unwavering support empowers us to 'do good in the world.' Special thanks to the sponsors, whose generosity made this day possible."
Supplies for the project were donated by Interfor, Sorenson Excavating Ltd., Dirty Diggers and Rotarians.
