Lauren Lafreniere is the new Miss Castlegar

Castlegar has a new queen and princess. The winners of the annual Miss Castlegar pageant were crowned Friday night at the Brilliant Cultural Centre.

Lauren Lafreniere was crowned Miss Castlegar and Soyun Lee Castlegar Princess.

Lafreniere, who had been planning to enter the Miss Castlegar program since grade nine, said the win felt incredible even though she was shocked at the decision.

The winner is determined through a points system that awards up to 30 points for the five month training period, 30 points from a personal interview, 15 points for the pageant speech, 10 points for the pageant talent display, 10 points for the evening gown presentation and five points for the pageant impromptu question.

Lauren Lafreniere also won the Carol Sommerville Training Award. Soyun Lee won the runner-up speech award, Emily Peck won the speech award, Emily Peck won the runner-up talent award, Soyun Lee won the talent award, Emily Peck won the perseverance award and Soyun Lee won Miss Friendship.
