Chilliwack's Guillermo Fano Marquez, 14, has earned top marks at a national level as a dog handler.
He recently travelled to Rhode Island with his father to compete in the 2025 NCA National Specialty, hosted by the Newfoundland Club of New England. He won best junior handler.
His mother, Leonora Marquez Barberena, said to win in the United States as a Canadian, with a Canadian breed, was a "huge accomplishment."
He also was awarded $5,000 USD for a scholarship.
The father and son travel all over the world to compete, she added.
"Hard work definitely pays off," she said.
