The Vernon Christian School Royals settled for sixth place out of 16 at the B.C. A High School Senior Girls Soccer championships in Duncan.
After going 2-1 in the preliminary round, the Royals were slotted into the fifth-through-eighth placement games (top team in each of the four round-robin brackets advanced to the medal bracket).
VCS opened the placement series with a 2-0 win over Okanagan rivals Aberdeen Hall Gryphons of Kelowna, which set up a game for fifth place against another Kelowna squad, the Immaculata Mustangs.
Immaculata blanked the Royals 2-0.
Vernon Christian finished off the preliminary round Friday, May 30, with an impressive 6-0 drubbing of the Nakusp Cougars.
The Royals began the provincials with a 2-1 win over the Queen Margaret's School Royals of Duncan, before falling 2-1 to the Credo Christian Kodiaks of Langley, who won the round-robin pool.
Surrey's Southridge Storm beat the Kodiaks 2-0 in a semifinal to advance to the gold-medal game against the host school, the Duncan Christian Chargers. Southridge prevailed 3-1 in the final.
Duncan Christian advanced to the gold-medal contest with a 1-0 win over the Pacific Christian Pacers of Victoria. The Pacers defeated Credo Christian 1-0 to win bronze.
B.C. AA HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS FINALS, BURNABY
The Vernon Panthers ended up 16th at their provincial finals.
After going 0-3 in the preliminary round, which included a 6-0 setback to the Duchess Park Condors of Prince George to close out pool play, the Cats were put into the 13th-through-16th place bracket.
They dropped their opening consolation round game, 7-0, to the Pitt Meadows Marauders, and finished the B.C. Finals with a 1-0 loss to the Smithers Gryphons.
Vancouver's York House Tigers won the gold medal, defeating the L.V. Rogers Grizzlies of Nelson 2-1 in the final. The St. Thomas Aquinas Fighting Saints of North Vancouver captured bronze with a 2-1 decision over the Sir Charles Tupper Tigers of Vancouver.
