Terry Fox run - Sept.18

The run will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18, at the Sportsplex

The organizers have changed but the Terry Fox Run continues in Clearwater. Crystal Wadlegger has taken charge of the annual local event from Vickie Morden and Joanne Wright, who have taken responsibility for it from the beginning. Arrangements for this year’s run, the 31st annual, will be the same as last year, Wadlegger said. The run will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18, at the Sportsplex. Participants will have routes of varying length to walk, run, cycle, roller blade or whatever. There is no entry fee and no minimum pledge. Donations to the Terry Fox Run for the fight against cancer can be made at the site. Born in 1958, Terry Fox had one leg amputated because of bone cancer. In 1980 he began his Marathon of Hope, a run across Canada to raise funds and awareness for the fight against cancer. His cancer returned after he had run for143 days and completed 5,373 kilometers. He passed away the following year. Since then the Terry Fox Run has raised more than $500 million around the world in his name.
