Ina Forrest's World Champion bid has come to an end.
After winning all six games in the round-robin stage of the 2025 World Wheelchair Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, Spallumcheen's Forrest and Team Canada were knocked out of the tournament by Japan in the quarterfinals.
Forrest and Team Canada partner Mark Ideson of London, Ont., fell by a tight score of 6-7 to Japan Saturday morning in Stevenson, Scotland. The Canadians took four points in the third end to take a 4-3 lead, but Japan out-scored them 4-1 over the next four ends. Canada got a point in the final end but it left them one point shy of tying Japan.
Team Canada was the first team to qualify for the quarterfinals after a 9-3 win over Latvia and a 9-4 win against Denmark on Friday.
Later on Saturday, Japan defeated Estonia 9-4 in the semifinals. Japan will play the hosts, Scotland, in the gold medal game on Sunday.
Team Canada is one of 21 countries looking to qualify for the 2026 Paralympics in Italy. Canada is currently third in the Paralympic qualification standings with the points they earned at the Mixed Doubles Championships.
