Last weekend saw the usual busy activity at the North Thompson Sportsplex. To start off on Nov. 15 there was Family Skating sponsored both times this weekend by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 259. Followed by Over 50 drop-in hockey and Adult drop-in hockey.
Nov. 16 saw first a pre-novice practice followed by a novice mini-tournament. There were out of town teams from Valemount and Ashcroft, and the Clearwater team split into two to utilize the ice-time.
The novice teams use mini boards on the ice to split the space into two different rinks for the ability to have two games going at once. The scores are not kept up on the time clock board since there isn’t the capability of having two up there at once.

These players were full of laughter and excitement, on and off the ice. Many were waving at the crowd and having such fun it made it a joy to watch. The teams all played each other a few times to get lots of game-time in.
The player featured this week is novice Ice Hawks player #12 Daryl Haring. Haring is 7-years-old and this is his fourth year of hockey. He is a high energy player and lives for the game. He said, “I love playing and hanging out with friends on the ice!” His favourite NHL player is Conner Mcdavid. Great work out there Daryl!
Nov. 17 saw power-skating clinics for the day. There were many different age groups featured and some scrimmage time as well. Following this was the second family skate and ladies drop-in hockey before adult drop-in hockey began.
