Editor, The Times:
Thank you very much for your coverage of the upcoming Clearwater Canoe Regatta. We appreciate all that the paper does to provide information on this fabulously fun event!
The Clearwater Canoe Regatta is likely one of the best family and community events of the valley. It’s about bringing people together for two days of fun in the sun! There is something for everyone from tall to small and young to wise!
On Friday night there is a mini Try the Tri for kids ages 4-17 - a short run, a quick bike and then a jump around the dock. For the little ones aged four, five and six - it’s a bike, a run around Dutch Lake school field, an obstacle course and then a bike back to the beach. Total fun and sassy with ice cream at the finish line! Later on there is a beach BBQ, the crowning of the 2011 Golden Gal (honoring a pioneer woman who has excelled in her contribution to our community) followed by the Wild & Wacky Scavenger Hunt and a Beach Jamboree for kids and teens.
Saturday is filled with races and games. The first event is the Rotary Relay Challenge (Pound, Peddle and Paddle), which is designed for one to four people. Run five km, bike 10 km and then a paddle around the lake. Teams that register with team t-shirts get an automatic three-minute head start! Think of this event as the ideal warm up to the Wilderness Relay being held the following weekend. Nobody panic - it’s about having fun and not inflicting pain (just make sure you have a comfy bike seat). The games of the day are just nutty and no skill required. Everything is “ish”. We’ve got canoe races, swimming events and relays involving blindfolds with new canoe games for all. Success by 6 offering a slate of events for all those six and under and Rotary has a dunk tank with proceeds supporting their many projects.
For those that don’t do canoes or bathing suits, there is the Top Chef Dessert Competition, a Salsa Competition, tug of war, greased pole climb, limbo contest, arm wrestling and our new event - MINUTE TO WIN IT - BEACH STYLE. Don’t forget about the Second Annual Show N’ Shine just up the road at A&W - a great event to compliment the Regatta
And don’t give
dinner a second thought - we’ve got a salmon BBQ and a few other offerings ready for 5 p.m. Dinner is by donation thanks to the sponsorship of Yellowhead Mines.
On behalf of mayor, council and all our event sponsors - we invite everyone to come and join in on the fun. From participants to enthusiastic spectators, please come and be a part of this fabulous community event and celebrate Clearwater! Team and family registration is just $25 and this allows you to enter as many events as you want - a steal of a deal! Register early at the District office. Keen to volunteer for an hour or so?
