HST vote results call for gov't accountability

My humble thanks to all those who supported this fight and to all of British Columbians who came forward to show we do have some say

Editor, The Times:

I am very pleased that British Columbians came forward and used their democratic power of referendum.

To me it has never been about taxes but that is only me. To me it was our chance as British Columbians to show the government by using the referendum and recall process that only we in B.C. in all Canada have. With this tool we can take back some control of how our tax dollars are spent.

I predict that, because of this, most other provinces will demand the same. They all have been watching B.C. very closely. If this happens then all governments, including the federal government will be more accountable.

I believe that this HST fight has not ended here. The big business has spent millions of dollars to keep this tax. They will be searching for some means to take this to court again.

Also this government will drag their heels and it will take up to two years or more to revert back to GST and PST. They may even keep all the extra charges for items never taxed by our province before. Only time will tell.

My humble thanks to all those who supported this fight and to all of British Columbians who came forward to show we do have some say.

It is too late for BC Rail and maybe even BC Ferries and BC Hydro (the jewel of B.C.). None of this should ever have taken place without input from the people of B.C. through referendum.
