Thompson-Nicola Film Commission is receiving $30,000 from the provincial government

The Thompson-Nicola Film Commission is receiving $30,000 from the provincial government. This is part of $275,000 in provincial government funding to help regional organizations attract and provide services to film and video producers from around the world.

Movies filmed in the area include Deepwater (filmed in Clearwater in 2003), A Team, Andromeda Strain, Aspen Extreme, Iron Road and The Sweet Hereafter.

“As former Film Commission Chair I understand the economic benefits of this industry to our region,” said Kamloops-North Thompson MLA Terry Lake.

Thompson-Nicola Regional District operates the Thompson-Nicola Film Commission from its offices in Kamloops.

“The provincial government’s grant of $30,000 is instrumental in financially supporting the Thompson-Nicola Film Commission’s marketing initiatives and scouting endeavors that entice International and Canadian productions to our region,” added TNRD Film Commission chair Roland Stanke.

British Columbia is the third largest production centre in North America after Los Angeles and New York.

Motion picture and television producers spent more than $1 billion in British Columbia during 2010. About 90 per cent of productions use the services of the BC Film Commission, including regional film commissions and offices.
