Clearwater Traffic Services issued two three-day immediate roadside prohibitions for alcohol and one 24-hour driving prohibition (under Section 215 of the Motor Vehicle Act) on National Impaired Driving Day, Dec. 3.
Two vehicles were impounded for 30 days and the drivers were issued 90-day driving prohibitions.
Estimated total costs for towing charges, administrative penalties and driver license reinstatement fees are approximately $7,000.
On the Section 215 24-hour driving prohibition, the driver lost his or her license for 24 hours and the vehicle was impounded for 24 hours.
Driving while impaired
On Friday, Nov. 25, police pulled over a vehicle near Gill Creek Road. The male driver had strong signs of impairment coming from him and police entered into an impaired driving investigation.
The male was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Estimated total costs for towing charges, administrative penalties and driver's license reinstatement fees are approximately $7,000.
The male was also arrested for breaching his court order, as he was on a court imposed condition to abstain from the consumption of alcohol. He will have to appear in court in January, 2017.
Break and enter
The BC Hydro substation on Murtle Road in Blue River was broken into sometime between Oct. 31 to Nov. 22. The lock to the main gate had been cut as was the latch assembly on a shed. Approximately 200 lb. of copper wire was stolen from the shed.
Break and enter to vehicles
On Nov. 25 police received a report that two trucks that were parked at a residence on Davy Road were broken into sometime during the night.
Both vehicles were gone through and various items stolen with an estimated total value of $1,750.
Accidents with injuries
Police attended a single vehicle accident with injuries 10 km north of Avola on Nov. 26.
A female driver was travelling north on Highway 5 following a semi when her vehicle started to fish-tail in the slush. It hit the southbound ditch and rolled over.
The driver and her passenger were taken to Clearwater Hospital with injuries to their backs and were later released.
The driver was issued a violation ticket under the BC Motor Vehicle Act for “failing to stay right.”
Injured woman climbs out of vehicle
On Dec. 2, police attended a single vehicle accident just south of Blue River on Highway 5.
A 30-year-old female had a head laceration and a potential broken arm. She managed to climb out of her vehicle up to the highway and received help from a passing by motorist before being turned over to BC Ambulance Services (BCAS), who then took her to the Clearwater hospital for further medical attention.
The female had been driving back to Alberta when she lost control of her SUV due to the extreme weather/road conditions. Her SUV rolled down a 20-foot embankment and was on its roof.
Detachment keeps busy
From Nov. 25 until Dec. 3, local police also investigated numerous other files (a few of them referred to below):
• 13 motor vehicle collisions;
• three traffic complaints along Highway 5; and
• four 911 calls.
