Clearwater RCMP responded to 23 calls for service this past week.
Sgt. Grant Simpson, detachment commander for the Clearwater RCMP reported that on Wednesday, February 5 at 11:19 a.m., RCMP were advised of a collision between two semis and a sedan on Highway 5, by Blue River.
Sgt. Simpson said very limited details were available due to poor service in the area and that Fire and Emergency Health Services B.C. responded.
"While police were enroute, they were advised by highway maintenance that there were no injuries and traffic control was already on scene. Const. Van Woudenberg arrived and found highway maintenance and our local heavy tow company were there as they had been in the area for another recovery. Vehicle one was a Honda Civic, being driven by a male out of Leduc, Alberta who was just being released by ambulance paramedics upon police arrival. He was provided a ride by Reserve/Const. O' Callaghan back to Clearwater."
Simpson explained the Honda, which was totalled after rear-ending the truck in front of it, was towed by a local company out of Avola. Vehicle two was a white Kenworth tractor and trailer unit out of Vernon being driven by an Edmonton man. “After being rear-ended by the Civic, the Kenworth had rear-ended the first truck and trailer. The truck and trailer were towed by the local heavy rescue company and the driver provided a ride by the tow driver,” said Simpson.
The Sgt. added that Vehicle three was a white 2024 Volvo tractor and trailer unit out of Acheson, Alta. being driven by a Didsbury, Alta. man. “There was damage to the tail end of the trailer after being rear-ended by the Kenworth. The trailer was dropped at a pullout and the driver returned with the tractor to Blue River to arrange retrieval details with his company,” said Simpson. He explained the Volvo had stopped for a vehicle turning off the highway onto a Forest Service Road (FSR) when the Kenworth and then the Honda, driving too fast for conditions, were unable to stop on the icy roads.
Photos were obtained and an accident report completed and the drivers of the Kenworth and the Honda were both issued violation tickets for following too closely under the Motor Vehicle Act.
On Saturday, Feb. 8 at 2:59 p.m. a Blackpool man called the Clearwater RCMP to advise he had been at the cardlock gas pump in Clearwater filling an Argo Holdings Inc. work truck when one of the local logging trucks had rear ended him, Simpson said.
The driver of the logging truck refused to provide his ID, and when advised the police were called, took off heading eastbound on Highway 5.
“Const.Van Woudenberg attended the Argo yard, took a photo of the slight dent and called the owner of the logging company, advising him of the accident and decision of his driver. The owner advised who the driver was and the truck he was driving,” said Sgt.Simpson.
Simpson said Const. Van Woudenberg attended the driver’s residence and confirmed the truck was parked there and there was no damage visible at point of contact.
"The driver admitted to the collision but figured it was so minor it wasn't worth exchanging information or waiting for police. Const. Van Woudenberg had the log truck driver call the complainant and provide the relevant information. An accident report was completed and a violation ticket for Fail to Provide Info was served upon the logging truck driver," Sgt. Simpson said, “He was advised to follow proper procedures when involved in such incidents to avoid being ticketed in the future.”
