Clearwater Library to temporarily relocate during renovations

The Clearwater library will be temporarily relocated beginning in Jan. 2025 to the Dutch Lake Community Centre while renovations take place.

The Clearwater Library is about to undergo some major renovations thanks to the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) over the next six months starting in January 2025 and will be temporarily closed as of Sunday, Dec. 29 at the current location. A temporary library will be moved to the Dutch Lake Community Centre in the Seniors Room for approximately six months which is located at 209 Dutch Lake Road.

“I’m happy that the library has found a new home during its renovation process, and glad the District of Clearwater could help. Having the Library at the DLCC will add a bit more buzz to an already busy community hub,” said mayor Merlin Blackwell on Monday, Dec. 16.

The Thompson-Nicola Regional Library (TNRL) kindly requests patrons to hold on to their library materials until the library reopens at the Dutch Lake Community Centre. As a reminder, the TNRL no longer collects fines for overdue library materials.

The opening date for the temporary TNRL location at Dutch Lake Community Centre (DLCC) will be announced in the near future and is expected to happen in late January of 2025. Residents are advised to check for updates on the exact opening date for the temporary library at the DLCC on social media by following on FacebookInstagram, or X

The TNRL advises that many of the regular services offered at the Clearwater library will remain the same such as programming and a full suite of online resources which will carry on without interruption. This includes eBooks, audiobooks and research tools.

A book drop will be located inside the DLCC with a reduced collection of materials available.

The expected timeline for completion of the completed renovations is July 2025 and will offer needed exterior improvements and more modern and functional interior spaces within the building itself.

“We greatly appreciate the understanding of our library patrons during this temporary move. We look forward to the results of this project which will be an improved library space for residents in Clearwater,” said Melissa Lowenberg, manager of community libraries and engagement.

“The TNRL extends it heartfelt thanks to the District of Clearwater and the Wells Gray Seniors Society for providing this temporary library space at the Dutch Lake Community Centre and helping us maintain uninterrupted library services for the community," noted a press release from the TNRD.
