The Thompson-Nicola Regional District’s Board has approved a maximum of $80,000 from the Federal Gas Tax Community Works Fund to upgrade the Blackpool Community Hall.
“This money will go to roof replacement, insulation upgrade, an upgrade of the doors to energy efficient units and exterior wall chinking,” said Tim Pennell, director for Electoral Area “A” (Wells Gray Country). “These are much needed upgrades that will make Blackpool Community Hall more energy efficient and ensure its place as a staple of the community for many years to come. The ongoing revitalization of the hall makes it more viable to operate, and increases activities and community spirit in Blackpool. So this is a very worthwhile project.”
The Star Lake Women’s Institute owns and operates the Blackpool Community Hall and receives a grant-in-aid of $10,000 per year from the TNRD. This project falls under the Community Energy Systems portion of the Federal Gas Tax. So far the TNRD has completed 47 projects totalling $2.2 million worth of funding from the Federal Gas Tax.
