A 21-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a woman in Surrey's Guildford neighbourhood on Dec. 14, 2024.

The RCMP Surrey provincial operations support unit responded to a report of a stabbing in the 14700 block of 108A Avenue around 3 a.m. that day.

Police found two people suffering from life-threatening injuries.  Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, one woman died at the scene, and the second victim was transported to the hospital and treated for their injuries. As a result, the Integrated Homicide Investigations Team (IHIT) took over the investigation.

On April 15, 2025, Gurtaj Singh was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. He remains in custody until his next court appearance, a police press release notes.

“While charges have been laid against Mr. Singh, this investigation is not over,” Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT said. “We believe there are additional parties who were involved in this act of violence, and we will continue in our pursuit to bring all those responsible to justice for the victims and their families.”

Anyone with information is asked to call IHIT at 1-877-551-4448 or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca
