Fighters from Salmon Arm’s Whizbang Boxing participated in the Bronze Gloves tournament in Chilliwack.
The tournament, held Sept. 29 and 30, showcased some notable moments for the Whizbang Boxing team.
Elijah Elias’ skill and determination secured a victory in his first fight against Alvin Valle from Mendoza Boxing.
The next fight on the card featured heavyweight Whizbang’s Nathan Gollan against Mad Katz’s Michael McKay. The fight was stopped by the judges in just 10 seconds, resulting in a quick win for Gollan. Coach Shawn Desautels remarked on the brevity of the fight, noting it might be a record for the shortest fight for Boxing BC.
Sunday’s bouts included a matchup between Whizbang Boxing teammates Elias and Bob Stephenson. Both fighters from the same club gave it their all, with Elias ultimately winning the Bronze Gloves championship in the 85-kg weight class for 2023.
In the co-main event on Sunday, Gollan faced off against Sage Johnson from Mendoza Boxing. Despite going three rounds in a back-and-forth fight, Sage Johnson secured the win by out-boxing Gollan.
Desautels was extremely happy with the performance of his athletes.
“It feels good to walk away with three wins at our first tournament since starting the club just over a year ago.”
