Delta Gymnastics is gearing up for two days of celebration to mark the society's 50th anniversary.
On Saturday, June 21, the public is invited to join a night of fun and festivities at the Delta Sport Development Centre — Delta Gymnastics' home beside the Ladner Leisure Centre, located at 4680 Clarence Taylor Cres. — from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
"As one of BC's largest and longest-running gymnastics clubs, we are inviting everyone to come together and honour our legacy," the society said in a press release.
"Since 1975, Delta Gymnastics has been a cornerstone in fostering physical literacy and a love for gymnastics across Delta and the surrounding communities. The milestone celebration offers a chance to connect with alumni, families and supporters, and to reflect on the club’s significant impact."
The event will include a memorabilia display, legacy presentation, DGS-themed quiz, paper airplane toss, silent auction, cake and champagne, a welcome from Mayor George Harvie and a special demonstration by the gymnaestrada performance team.
Tickets for the 50th anniversary celebration are $30, available via a link at deltagymnastics.com/50th-celebration.
The night before, the club is hosting an alumni pub night at Barnside Brewing (6655 60th Ave.), where from 8 to 11 p.m. coaches, athletes and families from the last 50 years can reconnect and toast a half-century of "bringing physical literacy and gymnastics to Delta and the surrounding communities."
Pub night tickets are $20, also available via a link at deltagymnastics.com/50th-celebration.
To commemorate its 50th anniversary, Delta Gymnastics has opened the DGS Legacy Fund to support the society's Coaches In Training program.
Open to anyone 14 or older, the program teaches skills through classroom discussion, gymnastics training, mentorship, and apprenticeship with coaches, after which participants register to take the two-day Gymnastics BC course to complete their National Coach in Training Foundations (Level 1) certification.
"Our Coaches In Training program creates opportunities for all people to learn how to coach in gymnastics," reads a description of the legacy fund.
"Additionally, we also offer further support for our coaches beyond initial training. All coaches are encouraged to be able to grow upon their skills and become the best coach that they can be."
Donations are collected through the Sport BC-led BC Amateur Sport Fund, and are eligible for a tax receipt. For more information, visit secure.bcamateursportfund.org/registrant/DonationPage.aspx?eventid=392232.
