Cowichan's U14 girls earned silver at the Club Championships last week.

Cowichan took silver at the U14 girls Tier 2 club field hockey championship June 14-15 in Vancouver.

"We are very proud of this group," said Cowichan Field Hockey's Heather Goodman. "Their grit, teamwork, and determination lit up the pitch this weekend, and we couldn’t be prouder.

Cowichan beat Victoria-Green 3-0 to open round robin play. They then put up a 1-0 win over Victoria-white before falling 2-1 to Sea 2 Sky.

A 1-0 win against the Vancouver Hawks put Cowichan in the semi-final against Port Alberni, who they dispatched by a 2-0 score to advance to the gold-medal game.

In the final, Cowichan met the only team to have beaten them in the round robin. The Island team stepped up their defence but couldn't get their offence moving and ultimately were beaten 1-0.

Asha Vashisht led Cowichan scoring with three goals over the course of the tournament, with Madelaina Goncalves close behind with a pair. Aurelia Audenart, Kaila Luff, and Marissa Erickson each had singles.

The squad's defenders and goalie Cassia Mattinson conceded just three goals in six matches.

"Each and every athlete played a role in this success," Goodman said. "What a weekend!"

Julianna Cross was the team's coach, with Kara Joyce assisting Cross on the bench.

"Thank you to Field Hockey BC for helping host such a fantastic event," Goodman said. "Special thanks to Brenda Rushton, Alison Sweeten, and Shaquille Gilbert for their dedicated efforts, and to all the volunteers and officials, who made it all possible."
