Coldstream residents can safely drink from the tap again.

In conjunction with Interior Health, the Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) advises that the water quality advisory issued Aug. 30 has been rescinded.

The order was issued to some customers supplied by Greater Vernon Water (GVW) in the areas of Coldstream Creek Road west of McClounie Road, Hillside Road, Priest Valley Drive, Summit Drive, Wyatt Way, Palfrey Drive W, Palfrey Drive E, Upper Summit Drive, Lochhaven Drive, Marwood Place, Cunliffe Road and Kidston Road (see attached map).

"Bacterial testing results and disinfection levels are within normal drinking water standards in the distribution system," the RDNO confirms.

ORIGINAL Aug. 30:

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) and Interior Health have issued a water quality advisory for an area of Coldstream due to a ruptured water main.

The rupture caused a loss of water pressure and increased turbidity. Crews are currently on site repairing the breaks, replacing and flushing the water main. Sampling of the water main will follow to ensure the safety of the water system.

The affected areas are Coldstream Creek Road West of McClounie Road, Hillside Road, Priest Valley Drive, Summit Drive, Wyatt Way, Palfrey Drive West, Palfrey Drive East, Upper Summit Drive, Lochhaven Drive, Marwood Place, Cunliffe Road and Kidston Road.

The RDNO says the affected area may increase due to changes in operations that may be required to complete the repairs.

When the taps get turned on again, residents may experience reduced water pressure, discolouration of the water or air. They are advised to run a cold water tap until the water has cleared. An outside tap is preferred.

The regional district says water service and treatment has been maintained, but some customers may want to boil their water for at least one minute when preparing food, drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice or when brushing teeth.

Questions can be directed to the RDNO utilities department at 250-550-3700.

The water main break forced the closure of Coldstream Creek Road from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, the District of Coldstream said Thursday.
