Noise, odour and lane shifts are on the agenda as Gorge Road work continues in Victoria for the next two weeks.
In an update for work through June 1, the city warns crews will be painting new road lines and installing signs and posts in the Gorge Road and Hillside Avenue area from Harriet Road to Blanshard Street.
Work began last spring on the year-long, multi-million dollar project to repave a stretch of Gorge Road. Expected complete this spring, upgrades include protected bike lanes, road paving, bus stop and accessibility upgrades, new and upgraded crosswalks, traffic signal upgrades, right turn slip lane removal, landscaping, fiber optic cable upgrades and underground water main replacement.
The project will expand the All Ages and Abilities cycling network by more than two kilometres. It will also provide a key network connection to the Galloping Goose Regional Trail, the Government Street protected bike lanes, the Kings and Haultain cycling routes and to future bike lanes planned on Gorge Road in Saanich.
The city engaged Jacob Bros Construction Ltd. as the primary contractor. All efforts are focused on maintaining safe work sites while minimizing impacts to residents, businesses and commuters. Working hours are typically Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Should there be additional weekend, holiday or night work which generates notable disruptions to traffic flow or significant noise, advance notice will be provided.
Urgent worksite safety concerns should be reported to Jacob Bros at 604-812-2277.
